Certified Financial Planner
Also known as a CFP® certificant, the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional must meet the following qualifications in order to be certified to use the CFP® marks, as specified by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.
- Examination: An individual must successfully complete the CFP Board's comprehensive certification examination.
- Experience: Three to five years of financial planning-related experience prior to receiving the right to use the CFP® marks.
- Ethics: Voluntarily ascribe to the CFP Board's Code of Ethics
- Education:- A CFP® certificant must obtain 30 hours of continuing education every two years.
Registered NAPFA Advisor
The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is the largest professional association of comprehensive, Fee-Only financial planners in the United States with 750+ members and affiliates in 45 states.
- Fiduciary: All Registered NAPFA Advisors subscribe to a fiduciary oath.
- Experience: To be accepted, NAPFA advisors must submit a comprehensive financial plan for peer review.
- Education: NAPFA advisors are required to complete 60 Hours of continuing education every two years.
